Anyone for tennis – “Welcome Midlife Christ”

Anyone for tennis

They took their time to deliver their debut album. After having released some excellent singles during a couple of years, Anyone for tennis finally released the record “Welcome Midlife Christ” in the end of Summer. They serve us 14 songs, which may seem a lot for an album, but it works great here for the band. It gives them space both to continue to excel with their energic, american-sounding rock and to explore some other areas, like for example stunning pop ballads, blues or acoustic ambience. If I also add an exquisite sense of melodies and of course also Martin Norström’s strong vocals we have an album that certainly meets the high expectations I had before and even more. I can’t refrain from playing “Everything Is Falling Down” again, so here are four tracks from the album:

Anyone For Tennis?

Anyone For Tennis? take their time with their debut album. They have now been working with it for three years, but claim now that they are in the final stages before releasing the album. In the Autumn they released the great, post-grungy “Everything Is Falling Down“, and now, about a month ago, another song from the album, “Fairytales Were Killed By Modern Love”. Please help yourselves.

Anyone For Tennis – “Everything Is Falling Down”

Anyone For Tennis

Anyone For Tennis is a band I really like and that I’ve written about before. The other day they wrote me that they have released a new single, “Everything Is Falling Down”, and also that it’s taken from their upcoming album, which will be their first full length album, which I’m sure I will get back to later on.

The song doesn’t disappoint me at all; it’s a great rock song, where the singer Martin Norström takes the chorus at least a couple of more notches up in to the sky with his performance, and a song which feels a little if Foo Fighters and Manic Street Preachers once made a song together. But then they have this horn section in the chorus, which doesn’t fit that model, but which nevertheless makes the song sing.

Anyone For TennisI haven’t really figured out yet what’s behind Anyone For Tennis‘ interesting band name. If they are referring to the classic phrase in some way or to the old Cream song with the same name, or to something else. (sorry, forgot to ask :-)) But there’s no question what their music is about: great pop/rock with a lot of energy.

Maybe I could describe it as one part of Foo Fighters and one part of brit-pop. Well produced, but not overpolished, creating a nice balance between the pop and the rock energy in the music.

The band is just about to release a new five-track EP, and you can get a taste of it here, “In Her Honor”. I also added a track from their debut EP, “Radio”.
