With a Light Heart – “Lost at Sea”

With a Light Heart

The band With a Light Heart recorded their debut EP “Lost at Sea” in the fishing village Bua located on the Swedish west coast. They worked on a loft somewhere in the village and also in a church, and although I’ve never been to Bua, I can feel the atmosphere of the sessions there by the sea as I listen. The church comes into the picture in the first track “Sailin’ Away”, which has almost a hymn-like character. Then they glide over into two excellent Americana-vibing songs, heartfelt and close, and they finish the EP with the more grand-sounding “Homewards”.  I can hear their influences from Bon Iver and Sigur Rós among others, and they do this in their own personal way, so it will be quite interesting to hear more from them later on.

Hillström & Billy – “The Boy Who Caught the World”

Hillström & Billy

Petter Hillström and his Hillström & Billy released the fourth album a few weeks ago, “The Boy Who Caught the World”. The fourteen songs were recorded in a few days in Stockholm during 2011 and 2012, spontaneously, with passion, and simple, as they describe it. And that’s also how it feels in these songs that breathes even more of Americana and seventies’ vibes than the earlier albums. Listen to the starting track here below.

King Melodies – “I Am the Devil”

King Melodies

King Melodies recently released the debutalbum “I Am the Devil”. Martin Bäcklin is the man behind King Melodies, and he has earlier released four EP:s with this project. And as the name implies, the melodies are very much in focus here (together with Martin’s characteristic  voice which makes me think somewhat of Janne Kask from Brainpool); there are quite few beautiful ones in this lo-fi shimmering Americana-influenced indie pop. Listen to a couple of songs here below.

Old Amica – “The Burning Dot pt. 1”

Old Amica

I’m happy to see that the duo Old Amica is back with a new EP, “The Burning Dot pt. 1”, which is available on their site. Later they will release a second part also, on the same theme. They write about the EP:

A post apocalyptic journey through space. Away from ourselves. A story about lost love and the inevitable consequence of a life behind closed eyes. Inspired by Carl Sagan, Tangerine Dream and the upcoming storm.

EP’s Trailer Park – “Last Night On Earth” – video

November 21, 2012 at 11:42 pm

EP’s Trailerpark opens up the door some more to the upcoming album with another strong track, this time with the single and video “Last Night On Earth”. Erik Palmqvist wants us to think a little about what we’re doing, but leave us, I’d say, with a rather hopeful ambience from the music; “We will sort this out”.
