Giungla – “Cold”

The Italian artist Emanuela Drei calls herself Giungla when she’s performing solo. The other day she released her debut single, “Cold”, a cool song based on her vocals, a raw processed guitar and a drum machine.

Jon Magnusson – “Dina drömmar”

Jon Magnusson has released the EP “Dina drömmar”, where the title track stuck in my head. It’s a charming song which reminds me a bit of Kjell Höglund.

Today Joachim Dahlbergs Vindkraft is releasing the second single from the upcoming album “Med blod som bläck”. It’s the song “Tankekraft”, which is also the song that made me stop and react to the power of Joachim’s music. Here is his story about the song:

– I wrote Tankekraft about five years ago in a small flat in Hägersten I rented from Syster Sol. It was right in the beginning of maybe the most difficult period of my life, and I’ve probably never felt so bad as I did then. The reason for that is what the upcoming album, which I have named “Med blod som bläck”, is all about. 10 songs, and each one of them is about the same thing, in kind of a chronologically told story drawn from my own experiences. Tankekraft, which is part four of the story, was the first song I wrote for the project, and it’s one of the first songs I ever wrote in Swedish. It may also be the most angry song I have.

About a year ago Magnus Bergman’s daughter Alva was born. There, in the middle of the baby happiness and the joys of Christmas, an uneasiness started to grow inside of him, an uneasiness coloured by the dark tidings around the world, and that wouldn’t let go. When hate has rooted itself in the middle of our safe little corner of the world, like black streams through a beautiful landscape, the image of the future starts to blur and darken. Magnus did what he does best, and started a new musical project which he called Natten.

Natten is a work in three parts which will be accompanied by an artfilm made by the filmmakers Anno 800 from Falun. The entire project will be released in January but already this week he has released the first part of the song, which you can listen to here below. Saga Björling (Poeta Magica, Jordbrand, Rotation) and her wonderful voice joins him in a ballad where Magnus release all his musical warmth. At the same time dissonant harmonies creep into all these moving emotions. Still the song feels warm and hopeful, like a Christmas song where the music itself in it’s powerful expression answers the desperate questions.

After an intense rehearsal with Martin Berglund & Stödorkestern a couple of members stayed behind afterwards to clean up the rehearsal room. Far into a corner, behind a half-empty bottle of beer, they found to their surprise a collection of guitar riffs scattered about on the floor. They were some quite dirty riffs, but they picked them up anyway and gave them a closer look. “Mm, they smell punk and grunge, but god damn’ how sweet they look. We can’t just throw them away, and Martin will never let us play them. What are we going to do?”

They grabbed the riffs and headed home, walking along the streets in the middle of the night, quiet and deep in thought. Just when they turned around a street corner they bumped into some members from Grand Minnows. The riffs fell out of their pockets and landed hard on the dark asphalt of the pavement. There in the glow of the street lamps the riffs glittered stronger than ever. They all looked at each other, puzzled and hesitating, until one of them said: “Let’s start a band and conquer the world!” Soon they were all smiling in agreement. “But what about the band name?” “Well, it should be something that directly tells something about our music, why not Horses Without Makeup?” Spot-on!” the others concurred.
