The trio Ismael has recently released the song “Lukas” together with a video, a song they describe as a fiery pride pop song about the possibility to find a new  way out together with someone else. The track is taken from their album “Som om jag vaknar nu”, released in the beginning of this year.

That album is possibly the best I’ve heard so far with the band, so I thought I should let you taste some more of it with another song here below. They command the space between postpunk-vibing Swedish rock from the 80’s and grand-sounding indiepop with soaring guitar harmonies, a space they fill with earnestness and blackness in lyrics where they find their own angles on the issues we wrestle with today about our humanity.

This is the first post from our new co-worker on Meadowmusic, Stefan Klaverdal. He is going to write about electronica, minimalism, classical music and many other genres. Stefan is a Swedish composer and sound artist working with acoustic and electronic music, performance and interactive sound art. /Ed.

Rhythm, noise, glitch sounds, drones and bass are some the components of the sound on Codespira1’s album ”Artefact”. The music makes me associate to Ryoji Ikeda and electronic minimalism, but it’s quite dynamic and moves smoothly between different emotional states rather than punching you in the face. Some of the songs could very well fit on the dance floor and the final track, ”Artefact – On My Feet”, is like an electric guitar solo or a mystical abstract song. Music for both meditation and dancing, perhaps?

Codespira1 is Mattias Petersson’s alias as a solo artist (he’s also one half of the duo There are no more four seasons, if you missed them – look them up and listen!). ”Artifact” is his first release on the Dutch label Moving Furniture.

So far she’s released one single each year and this year is no exception as she released her third one earlier this month. And I recognize her on the new song “Creatures of the Sun” with the percussion-heavy, grand-sounding and catchy pop. I wished she would release more music, though, as she definitely has a voice I’d love to hear more of. If you like this song, I recommend a listen to the earlier tracks “My Flower” and “Dive”. You won’t be disappointed.

It’s hard to find more summer feelings than in Crying Day Care Choir’s sunny folkpop-vibing song “Wedding Song”. The pair Jack and Sara Elz sang the words to each other when they married five years ago, but thought it was a good time now to record the song together with the band mate Bill Nystedt and release it as a single.

In his solo project Ærheart Jonas Linngård has released a new version of the song “Det liv jag älskar”, originally recorded by Perssons Pack. In his hands the song moves to a quite different atmosphere as he wraps a electronic haze of beautiful melancholy around us. And when Bränderna adds his sensitive and fragile vocals to the track it becomes a heartbreaking experience.

Earlier this year Ærheart also released the single “Howl”. Again he shows us a soft melancholy and another interesting voice in Naphta Sings. It’s a fascinating song with a catchy melodic line that runs through the entire song in different incarnations, in the intro, in the verse melody and in the chorus, repeating without feeling repetivite.
