Old Amica – “Ocean Beach/In the Trees”

June 28, 2011 at 9:34 am

Old AmicaI wrote about Old Amica in the beginning of the year. They have recorded a couple of new songs they want us to enjoy during summer, and you can download these below. They continue to develop their concept of nordic ambience, singer/songwriter and electronica, and I love it.

You’ll also find a video below to the wonderful song “Operation Table”, taken from their EP, a video made from clips from fans and listeners in a collaborative effort.
You’ll find Old Amica on their site.

Lovisa Lindström – “Something’s Been Missing”

June 21, 2011 at 2:20 pm

Lovisa LindströmLovisa Lindström is a singer/songwriter who released her debut EP “Something’s Been Missing” some months ago. She says her biggest inspiration has been Annika Norlin from Säkert, Hello Saferide. You could maybe notice this if you dig deep, but I think that she shows her very own voice in these recordings.

The arrangements are beautiful, yet not unique, but in combination with really nice melodies and quite characteristic vocals; clear, with a bit of frailty and some folk vibes; she manages to stand out and cut through walls.

You can listen more on her Reverbnation page. Here’s “Not Going Back”:

Le Days – “Dead People On Tape”

June 20, 2011 at 2:02 pm

Le DaysI wrote about Daniel Hedin and his solo project Le Days a couple of years ago. Now he’s finally released his debut album “Dead People On Tape”.

The Cd’s booklet doesn’t contain the lyrics to the 16 songs. Instead we see photos of unknowns, mug shots seemingly from the beginning of the last century. It’s through the eyes of these people Daniel looks when he creates this music, picturing how the world may have looked for these, I imagine, tragic life stories.

With a voice and an expression that reminds a little of Conor Oberst, he paints a dark, tragic, dreary world. It becomes very strong and emotional and surprisingly dynamic in this minimalistic production. An impressive and credible album.

You can listen to “Dead People on Tape” on Bandcamp and on his site he shows the images of these dead people. You can also find Le Days on Facebook.

Barrett Elmore – “Woodlands”

June 14, 2011 at 12:19 pm

Barrett ElmoreBarrett Elmore started out as a trio in 2008 and played from the beginning a raw, instrumental blues. Soon they moved over to psychadelia and music inspired by this and when the singer Mikaela joined the band they found the style and sound which is reflected in their music today.

This has resulted in their debut album “Woodlands” which was finished a few days ago. It’s obvious that Pink Floyd is one of the big influences, as they also state in the band name, but they bring more ingredients to the sound. Overall there is a soothing, nature-mystique ambience in the album, which reminds of the endless, eternal, nordic woods, which is the theme of the album, and the spots of swedish folk melancholy emphasizes this further.

An interesting album you can probe at their Soundcloud page. You can also find the band on Facebook.

Mire Kay – “Fortress”

May 18, 2011 at 3:06 pm

Mire KayEmelie Molin and Victoria Skoglund, also members in the band Audrey, form the duo Mire Kay. Recently they released their debut EP, “Fortress”, an EP full of folk indie painting their own, beautiful, slightly mellow, soothing atmosphere in the room.

No big gestures, but soft brushstrokes of first of all cello, guitars and vocals but also with banjo, slide and stripped arrangements, which create a special feeling in the music.

You can listen to the EP on Spotify or on Bandcamp. You can also find Mire Kay on their site and on Facebook.
