Afenginn – “Lux”

April 9, 2013 at 3:28 pm

Afenginn

The Danish-Swedish band Afenginn was formed in 2002 and have now released five full length albums, counting the latest “Lux” which was released in the beginning of the year. I think it’s a wonderful album, where I felt just after a few bars that this was going to be a different and special experience.

They have their base in folk music, where maybe the balkan influence is what can be sensed most strongly, but I wouldn’t complain if someone called it classical music or jazz for that matter. It’s a blend of all this into their very own Afenginn brew, seductively beautiful, melancholic and which also gives me a strong filmic sensation as I listen. You can listen to the whole album on their Bandcamp page.

Everett Parker – “Irrevocably Human”

March 25, 2013 at 4:53 pm

Everett Parker

Everett Parker released his album “Irrevocably Human” last week, a year and a half after the debut EP “Run For the Uppercut”. And I can just state that it’s an impressive album, which you should check out if you’re into classic, storytelling Americana with guitar in hand. It’s always difficult to describe what exactly makes a record like this stand out among many others in the genre. The lyrics are of course important, but the entire set is glowing, from the voice, from the string hammering, from the rough, earthy atmosphere, which has been created with small means. If the last EP felt warm, this is at least one step up and feels red hot.

Humfree Bug Art – “With Nights and Lights”

Humfree Bug Art

The Stockholm sextet Humfree Bug Art released their debut EP “Chairlene” last year, and now they are relaunching one of the songs from the EP as a single, “With Night and Lights”. And why not? it’s a great song with an interesting sound: a grand indie pop with folk vibes, and I can hear that they really are six members. They show this in a beautiful way also in the living room-recorded “Flowers”, which you can watch here below.

Mire Kay – “Reverse”

Mire Kay

Mire Kay is warming up before the album release (April 4th) with another song, this time also with an accompanying video directed by Mats Udd. After this song, “Reverse” and the last one “Beat” I’ve got big expectations for the album, to say the least.

Pompejius – “Cracks”

March 21, 2013 at 5:02 pm

Pompejius

The band Pompejius, hailing from Karlstad released their first music video “Cracks” now in the beginning of this year. The song is taken from the excellent debut EP “Come to My Rescue” from last year. A quite enjoyable song that breathes indie and American folk, coloured by warm horns and dreamy guitar figures.
