The Moniker, aka Daniel Karlsson, runs his own show now and cuts himself some slack both with the music itself and with the releases. Starting this week he will release a new single every two weeks until the 31st of August when all the songs off the new album “Don’t Fly Too High” will have been showcased. First up is the song “Everything Is Gonna Be Just Fine”, a beautiful pop track with a dramatic, a bit filmic verse and a brighter, somewhat romantic chorus. I get classic pop vibes from the sixties and the decades after that, which he soars through, creates his own mix from and adds a an excellent sense of pop melodies. And, not to forget, a great saxophone solo signed Magnus Hägglund in the end of the song.

Emerald Park are preparing the release of the new album “Go! Go! Go!”, which is going to be released on the 23rd of June. The first taste for us is the song “Liberteens”, a song that the band wrote after they had listened to Imogen Heap and thought about how they could incorporate Autotune in their music. The result came out as a duet where an autotuned Martina Johansson is singing a cool, bright and airy electropop verse, after which Tobias Borelius comes rumbling in with rough indie pop and electric guitars where they seem to bend the tones a bit more to mark the contrasts. Love it.

I wrote about Hanna Järver and her delicate, close and ambient pop a couple of years ago when she released the EP “Smutsen“. In the beginning of this year she released the beautiful, melancholic single “Ingenting skrivet”, which also seems to be a forerunner to a new album.

The duo Magneta is a two-person offshoot from the band Killerball, which I’ve written about before. A while ago they released the first song, “Vafan”, a fun song musically, which they describe as a messy electronica in crude Swedish, but with a rather tragic family story as the theme. They write that they get their inspiration from bands like Bob Hund, Teddybears and Devo among others, and promise new songs within short.

Honeymilk is an interesting band to follow. They keep moving with their music all the time and have varied between britpop songs and more unpolished indie rock tracks. On the latest EP “Sanguine Skies”, which was released in February, I get to hear a rougher, larger indie rock sound, while I still recognise their playful, relaxed attitude from before.
