PojaIt varies quite a bit in style when Poja produces his music, even if the common denominator is hip hop, which you can hear in two tracks here below. 22 years old from Gävle, Poja has achieved a lot in a few years time, among  this collaborations with Promoe from Looptroop and Bully from The Lox. Today he working in his own studio with the aim om reaching out to even more listeners.

Reform – “Reformed”

March 1, 2011 at 4:14 pm

ReformI’ve been listening to Reform‘s album “Reformed”, an album that was released in 2009. It feels like progressive rock, jazz-fusion and the seventies close to Björn J:son Lindh, Bo Hansson in style, but more based on guitars and with some blues vibes.

“Reformed” is the band’s fifth album since they started, and is maybe more of a music collective than a band, with members coming and going. The only members that have been with the band the entire journey are bass player Jesper Bergman and drummer Anders Bergman. And after having listened to the the other albums I note that the style and sound change a bit between albums.

You can listen to their music on Spotify or on Myspace. Reform also has a Facebook page and on their blog you can listen to some new upcoming tracks. Here’s “Happy Landing” from “Reformed”:

Stella By Starlight

February 28, 2011 at 5:21 pm

Stella By Starlight Stella By Starlight, hailing from Helsingborg, have just released their new single “Shine With Me”. They serve us two tracks, the rock/pop-mellow title track full of nice rock riffs and the softer “Silent as the Shadow”.

They’d like to place the music somewhere in the vicinity of R.E.M.’s  “Automatic For the People” and when it comes to style I’d agree with that but maybe not when it comes to the ambience. Listen for yourself here below.

The single is available on Spotify and on the Facebook page.

Klifton Filente – “Common Ground”

February 25, 2011 at 6:38 pm

Klifton FilenteThe first thing that strikes me as I start to listen to Klifton Filente’s album “Common Ground”, is the sound from the thin, somewhat mechanical drums and the undefined, rolling bass, with the impression like it’s programmed on one of those all-in-one-keyboards. But soon enough the songs open up and reveal excellent pop songs, with beautiful melodies and chord variations.

The sound becomes a part of the charm with the songs, which remind me of pop and country pop from early seventies or maybe like a more humble Magnetic Fields.

“Common Ground” is available on Spotify or on Klifton Filente’s Bandcamp page. Klifton Filente also has a Myspace page.

Tobias Borelius – “Du känner mig för väl, farväl”

February 22, 2011 at 10:00 am

Tobias Borelius

A little more than a year ago Daniel Jönsson, guitarist in Emerald Park, released a solo album under the name Danish Daycare. Last month the singer in the same band, Tobias Borelius, released his debut album, “Du känner mig för väl, farväl”, a project that he’s been working on for a couple of years.

And we get to hear Tobias in a completely new context; he’s singing in Swedish and the sound is created with analogue synth sounds, assisted by acoustic guitars and piano, a sound created together with the producer Carl Granberg.

The sound is influenced by Adolphsson & Falk, Olle Ljungström, Familjen and Kent but I don’t feel any direct paralells; it feels rather special and personal where you get close to Tobias. Maybe it gets even more personal when someone sings in their own language in his own dialect like in this case.

There are eight tracks, with quite some variation, on this album which gets better and better each time I listen. You can listen to it on Spotify or on Tobias Borelius’ Bandcamp page. You can follow Tobias on his Facebook page and also of course on Emerald Park’s page.
