“Fireflies” is the comeback single from the band The Pale Corners. The last time we heard from them was with the single “Steve Buscemi” in 2009. The ambition after that was to release more songs, but a lot of internal problems came in the way, and the songs were put on hold.

But now they’re back with this song, which feels really promising for the future. The band name the explain with:

Our lyrics are much about dreams and the state between reality and dreams. And then we thought that the name fit in there.

Fireflies

Post rock band Scraps of Tape released their fourth album in the end of October, “Resident Flux”. They say that the ambition was to make a raw and spontaneous album, and that most of it should be recorded live directly. They had booked five days in the studion but already after two days they and their producer Per Stålberg were finished.

And the album is indeed raw and energetic, to a large extent instrumental, but with guest vocals by Mattias Alkberg, Cecilia Nordlund and Mizuki Ida on some of the tracks. And it’s the song with Mattias Alkberg, “Flera meter kort”, that you can listen to and download here below.

One could guess from the band name that Yngling (Youngster) is a young band, a band name they explain with:

A youngster is someone you can both love and hate. And contrasts are what our music are made of. And then we like boats too.

I wouldn’t be able to guess that they were youngsters from listening to the music, though; it’s an instrumental thematic rock, with progressive vibes, ambience and like they say, contrasts where they build up the songs beautifully. And if they hadn’t written anything about it, I would have said something about the guitar layers too. But there aren’t any guitars at all. Good music in any case.

Everett Parker is Daniel Börjesson’s solo project he started in 2006. He tells about the name that the project’s name from the start was Writers Edge, mainly because he then only had his lyrics and had just started to play the guitar. He got tired of that name and changed to Everett Parker. Everett he got from George Clooney’s character in the movie “O Brother Where Art Thou”, and Parker, well, it sounded good together with the first name.

“Run For the Uppercut” is the name of his debut EP and was released about a month ago. On the surface it’s about americana and somewhere close the spirit of Dylan inevitably shows itself. A closer look reveals four songs of different character, all with Everett’s somewhat raspy voice that breathes authenticity into the well-written lyrics. I’m close to the sixties in the naked production but in a song like “Truck Light Search” I sense that I get closer to contemporary  singer/songwriters like Damien Rice in the mellow feeling.

The band Coyote Deathbed nurtures some mystique vibes. About the name the band tells us: “A man told the story of the coyote deathbed. Never went back, but still never forgot that place… It is everything that is feared. It is everything that is loved.
And there’s also a killer-falafel place. So that’s recommended if you ever happen to visit the coyote deathbed.”

And it feels a little like a harsh prairie. It’s hard, cool, sunburned lo-fi and laidback. Like if Tom Waits made an EP together with White Stripes or like the band likes to call it: vegetarian, progressive grindcore.
