Roí Höttur – “Imaginarium”

April 1, 2011 at 9:37 am

Roí HötturThe story about Roí Höttur that started last year has now been crowned with their album debut “Imaginarium”. They continue on the album to develop their psychadelia and the impression of Pink Floyd, being a source of inspiration, is even more obvious now, I think.

The debut single “Dream of Papaver” has been trimmed and now has a sequel on the album in “Dream of Papaver (reprise)”. The end is a brilliant effort by Elin Larsson in a “The Great Gig In the Sky”-inspired part. Listen to the song here below.

You can listen to the album on Roí Höttur’s Bandcamp page. Follow the band on Facebook.

Roí Höttur who, in the beginning of the year, released their debut, the 12 -minute track “Dream of Papaver”, continue to produce songs in the same spirit. Psychadelic forest-rock as they call it themselves. This time, though, with a more normal track length.

Visit them on their Myspace page, where I can recommend you to listen to their cover of the Ace of Base-song “All That She Wants”. I Don’t think that you’ve heard it like that before.

Roí HötturRoí Höttur means Robin Hood in Icelandic, but beside the name I can’t find any obvious connections to Iceland or icelandic music. Instead the band serve us, what I would like to call, psychadelia with a blues heart. And psychadelia then as a trip back to the times of the early Pink Floyd.

The Doors can also be sensed in their music as well as, to some extent, Led Zeppelin and all this can be heard in their debut. A debut, which is, in a nice psychadelia tradition, a 12 minute long piece. Great fun to listen to.

You can find Roí Höttur on Myspace, on Facebook and on their blog. Here’s “Dream of Papaver”:
