Black Light White LightThe danish-swedish band Black Light White Light went to Göteborg this winter to record three songs with the producer Johan Forsman. These tracks are now available on the debut EP “Director’s Cut”, three tracks with psychadelia-inspired rock.

Roí Höttur

Roí HötturRoí Höttur means Robin Hood in Icelandic, but beside the name I can’t find any obvious connections to Iceland or icelandic music. Instead the band serve us, what I would like to call, psychadelia with a blues heart. And psychadelia then as a trip back to the times of the early Pink Floyd.

The Doors can also be sensed in their music as well as, to some extent, Led Zeppelin and all this can be heard in their debut. A debut, which is, in a nice psychadelia tradition, a 12 minute long piece. Great fun to listen to.

You can find Roí Höttur on Myspace, on Facebook and on their blog. Here’s “Dream of Papaver”:

Mono Stereo

November 9, 2009 at 5:14 pm

Mono Stereo The Malmö band Mono Stereo is today releasing their debut EP “Space Out” (360 Degrees Music). They have found their own niche with a sound that first of all makes me think of the sixties’ psychadelia, but with an intensity and massive sound that reminds me somewhat of 80’s/90’s bands, like for example My Bloody Valentine and Jesus & Mary Chain.

Even though it’s so intense, I find good dynamics and breathing space in the music, and it’s easy to just ride along in this nice mix. The vocals are not the obvious protagonists here, they’re more like a part of the sound together with the other instruments. Well, you can listen for yourself here below, in the video for “Orange Is Green” and the track”The Day Before Science Fiction”.

That their foundation lies in live music doesn’t come as a surprise, and their release is of course followed by a number of gigs, for starters with a couple of shows in London, among them one gig at Smash n Grab at Proud Galleries.
Also, you can download four live tracks with the band if you sign up for the band’s news letter.

You can find Mono Stereo on Myspace and on Facebook.

The Crystal Caravan

The Crystal CaravanI’m listening to The Crystal Caravan’s new album, their debut album, which they released last week. Dennis Lyxzén is the producer, and together they have filled the ten track album with loads nostalgic feelings.

If you love rock from the end of the sixties and the beginning of the seventies, this is real ear candy. I hear Cream, MC5, Lynyrd Skynyrd, jam, blues rock, southern rock and it’s like it’s made for a sweaty rock concert.  The sound is perfect for this and i hear a bunch of skilled, tight musicians with a large dose of joy and feeling for what they do.

See you on the road, I hope.

You can listen to a couple of tracks from the album here. If you’d like to listen more you should visit The Crystal Caravan on Myspace. You’ll find their site here.

IubarIubar’s songs grow more and more as I listen to them. They don’t rush ahead, but carefully builds seductive ambiences, with a mixture of pop structures and oriental influences. And this mix they do really good.

If I should find som references, I would say that they combine modern melancholic pop from for example Doves, with psychadelia from the Beatles. I even think I hear a sitar somewhere, and definitely some pump organ :-)

This autumn they released their debut aIbum “Invitation II Dig” (Smilodon Records), from where you can listen to som tracks here. You’ll find Iubar on their site and on Myspace if you want to listen more.
