All That Is

All That Is

Here’s a collection of singles I’ve picked up this Autumn. Quite a varied mix I believe.

All That Is – “You Are Drugs”

We’ve met Patrick Ray and the producer LJB before in the band Sidewalk, whom I’ve written about a couple of times. A little more than a year ago they started the project All That Is together, and early this Autumn the first song “You Are Drugs” was released. A new EP will follow within short.

Banana Beach – “Pelican Bay”

The quintet Banana Beach released their debut EP in Spring, “Window Licking”, and from the EP they picked out this single, “Pelican Bay”, an indie tune with dance ambitions.

Projekt Elliot – “Del 2: Sommarnattens Sång”

About two years ago I wrote about Projekt Elliot’s “Del 1: Äventyr i Lo Fi“. Now he’s back with the second part in the shape of the single “Sommarnattens Sång”, another track with acoustic Swedish pop and his characteristic glowing vocals.

Billy Fitzgerald – “Compass”

Billy Fitzgerald, aka Adam Rosenkvist, released this single a couple of months ago, “Compass”, a quiet, soft, lo fi-sounding tune with a fine melody.

Djävulen Möblerar Om – “Universum i en kub”

Malte from closed down Malte X has started a new project: Djävulen Möblerar Om. “Universum i en kub” is the first single and I recognise the music to some extent, in the punk and the rock’n’roll, but this is more garage and has a rawer sound overall. Here’s the single video.

Old Lost John – “Caving In”

Old Lost John

And now we’re changing the scene and the tempo completely from the last post, and we sit down looking out over a calm landscape where the grey skies is barely visible through the light mist and it’s getting dark soon. It’s Old Lost John, hailing from Malmö, who sets up this melancholic peaceful scene with his quiet vocals, guitar and earthy close folk-Americana on his EP “Caving In”. Here are two songs.

Piroth – “Virvlande höst”

Piroth

Earlier this Autumn Piroth finished their seasonal art project “Djupa skogen” by releasing the fourth single “Virvlande höst”. Simultaneously the mini album and art box “Djupa skogen” was completed with these four melancholic, acoustic folk songs together with a piano version of “Djupa skogen” with Patricia Naumanen.

Karmacloud

Karmacloud is the name of a Danish-Swedish-Irish trio with the members Rumle Langdal, Linnéa Lundgren and Daniel Forde. We meet acoustic guitars, beautiful vocal harmonies and folk vibes that make me think of CSN&Y, Joni Mitchell and the early seventies. So far they’ve release a single and an EP. Listen to two tracks here below.

Frida Braxell

Frida Braxell

I don’t get that many tips about Swedish folk songs. It’s a genre that doesn’t get as much attention anymore in the large media channels in Sweden as it got a couple of decades ago, but it lives on and of course we’re reminded of the influence it has all the time in modern rock and pop songs. A young singer/songwriter that nurtures the storytelling Swedish folk tradition soil is Frida Braxell. Last year she released the album “Fattiga Riddare”, which is a collection of her recordings from the last years. A lot of stories of course, warmth, humour and also quite a few of these rhymed razor sharp frases that sticks. Here are a couple of songs:
