iida – “Hands”

iida, who made such a brilliant debut last year with the single “Life Will Kill You”, is back with a new song. It’s called “Hands”, and a great song it is too. Listen here:

Cmbstn – “My Friend”

Tha band Cmbstn (or Combustion), hailing from Stockholm released the single “My Friend” yesterday, a grand, synth driven pop track. Not bad at all.

Temu – “Jooze! (Pt. 1)”

Temu, singer, dancer, producer and songwriter, grew up in the US but moved to Denmark at the age of 19, and ended up in Sweden where he’s living now. On the new song “Jooze! (Pt. 1)” he brings us back to the eighties in the company of Prince, Rick James, Gap Band and others, well Earth, Wind & Fire comes along too.

Parken – “Double rainbow över Valla Torg”

Parken, or Pelle Lindroth which is his real name, is on his way with a new album, “Tidigt en maj”, to be released in May. Here he serves us a first taste with this great track, “Double rainbow över Valla Torg”:

Mount David – “Falling Behind”

Mount David

Here’s a nice piece of folk soul-sounding music from Mount David, or David Andersson, which is his real name. The song “Falling Behind” is his third single and I land somewhere in Van Morrison’s domains from the seventies with David’s light, fragile voice with a lot of soul nerve in it.

Milou

Milou is the duo Iman Conta and Felix Flygare, and a few days ago they released the video to their debut single “High For You”. It’s about electro soul and disco and quite a bit about Iman’s wonderful soul voice. Listen for yourself here below.

Bellaroush – “Free”

Bellaroush

Bellaroush is the name of a seven men and women strong band from Göteborg, who in May released their second album, “Free”. Here it’s about reggae and soul in a lovely mix and it feels quite a bit like a nostalgic trip to the seventies. And it’s a succesful journey with an album that radiates warmth, engagement and joy of playing. Listen here below in a couple of songs.

That Driving Beat – “Fifteen Minutes of Northern Soul”

August 22, 2013 at 1:50 pm

That Driving Beat

Northern Soul is the term for a passionate interest for soul music from the second half of the sixties; songs that were released in small numbers, on the indie labels of those days, and which seldom reached large audiences. The ten men and women strong band That Driving Beat dived into this song treasure and released an EP, in the beginning of Summer, with some soul gems from that era. It’s easy to enjoy this retro sounding soul stomp which has all the ingredents to what I once learned was how soul sounds.
