Astrolites

December 13, 2010 at 2:32 pm

Today I have the pleasure to present a new colleague here on Meadowmusic: Staffan Larsson, better known as Stuff, will help us navigate through all great new Swedish music. When Stuff’s not writing on Meadowmusic, you can watch him as a guitar player in the hard rock band Killer Clan of F.U.N. /Pär

It all started with me getting a bunch of artists to browse through and eventually drop a line about them. Most of it were just crap, but then I got to Astrolites and their new LP “Play For Keeps”. The opening track blew me straight away and the music were really grooving. I decided to keep on listening, it feels like they’re right in time. It’s tight and the music just sparks with energy and life and the singer fits just like a glove!

The Album is almost flawless except for one instrumental little piece and I think that the LP could do without it, plus Johnny Cash old classic Ring Of Fire.

Rockabilly, and I get a little touch from Stray Cats. Take a listen and I promise that you just cant stand still for a longer time. As for now, I’m extremely curious about how they sound live, just to see what if they can do just as good as on the LP.

Astrolites can be found on Spotify and their Myspace can be found here!

Mono Stereo – “Me and My Machine”

November 5, 2010 at 7:18 pm

Mono StereoIt’s been quiet here on Meadowmusic this week, since I’ve been away on a trip a few days. I hope I can restore your interest by presenting Mono Stereo’s new single “Me and My Machine”, to be released on Monday. But you can of course listen to it here already today, and download it.

I wrote about Mono Stereo the first time almost exactly a year ago, and since then a lot of things have happened around the band; tours, recordings and other events. They seem to have a continuous positive flow around them, which feels very nice to see.

I think that the single more clearly than before points out a direction towards classic psychadelia, refined in their own way. Really great song this.

Tonight they start a two-week intense tour in England, with a first gig at Ducie Bridge in Manchester.

New songs with Roí Höttur

September 27, 2010 at 12:11 pm

Roí Höttur who, in the beginning of the year, released their debut, the 12 -minute track “Dream of Papaver”, continue to produce songs in the same spirit. Psychadelic forest-rock as they call it themselves. This time, though, with a more normal track length.

Visit them on their Myspace page, where I can recommend you to listen to their cover of the Ace of Base-song “All That She Wants”. I Don’t think that you’ve heard it like that before.

Mac Blagick

September 23, 2010 at 4:49 pm

Mac BlagickIf someone would play Mac Blagick to me and then claim that they were one of the pioneering bands from the beginning of the seventies that set the foundations for hard rock, I probably would have bought it. I would wonder, though, how a great band like this could have escaped my odysseys, hunting for great bands of that era.

Mac Blagick really radiates retro from those days, from the sound, from the songwriting and from the excellent vocals. They move between songs that remind me of a heavier Cream to others that take a big step into the seventies’ hard rock but with an older sound.

This year they released their second album “Ramadawn” and they are now underway with recording their third. You can visit them on Myspace. Here are two songs from “Ramadawn”:

Black Light White LightThe danish-swedish band Black Light White Light went to Göteborg this winter to record three songs with the producer Johan Forsman. These tracks are now available on the debut EP “Director’s Cut”, three tracks with psychadelia-inspired rock.

Listen to “Director’s Cut” on Black Light White Light’s Myspace page. Here is “Higher Than Low”:
