Sidewalk – “Wonderland Sessions”

March 17, 2011 at 4:58 pm

SidewalkSidewalk sounds like if someone crossbreeded a The Doors-flower with a hiphop-tree and created a new species. Music with the feeling from both worlds, glued together so well that it feels completely natural.

Sidewalk, which consists of Pitz (rap), the Sun (vocals and guitars) and DJ Lastword (bass and prod), recorded, during three days in late December, the EP “Wonderland Sessions”. Nice, laidback, cool music which you can enjoy on Spotify or on their site.

“Wonderland Sessions” is a first taste of the upcoming album “Touching the Sky” and if you’d like to follow the band, you can do so on their blog and on Facebook.

Kokong – “Science Loves Pudding”

March 11, 2011 at 3:30 pm

Kokong“Soundgarden goes psychedelic folk-prog” somebody said about Kokong‘s album “Science Loves Pudding”. The band describe the music as a mix of sex and sudoku and that they had the ambition to create music without any fixed boundaries. The band, or the duo, consists of Niclas Peterson and Tom Lindström.

I think that the quote above is a good reference point from where it all starts, somewhere in the nineties’ grunge-post-grunge, but then it takes of in various directions and I get all sorts of associations in the songs. Like for example in “Knife Attack” below, where it almost seems like Tom Waits was  around when they recorded the song.

Exciting and interesting album to listen to, which you can do on Spotify or on Ge.tt. You can also find the band on Facebook.

Ett Rop På Hjälp

Ett rop på hjälp

Here’s a band from Gothenburg that I think many people might like. Their music sounds heavy and groovy, sounds of the seventies. Until the vocals enter, in Swedish and all of a sudden it feels like Swedish progg. The songs have catchy melodies and you will happily listen more than once. A band that I would like to see at a local pub while I’m drinking a beer or two. A pretty high grade in other words.

As all of you know the climate is really harsh among bands that want to be heard, unfortunaetly Ett Rop På Hjälp just has a myspace-page, which you can find here. Myspace has totally bailed out and they don’t have as many users anymore. I really hope that this band will get a proper site plus other services where they can show their music. Ett Rop På Hjälp is an awesome band that I’m afraid will drown if they don’t promote themself in more ways soon.

Orange Earth – “Southern Beech”

February 1, 2011 at 5:56 pm

Orange EarthOrange Earth, which I wrote about in June last year, released a new EP a couple of months ago, “Southern Beech”. They continue experimenting in the outskirts of the psychadelia and the shoegaze regions and moves into jazz territories from time to time. Completely unpredictable from song to song and many times within the songs as well, which makes it even more interesting.

Listen more on Myspace or on Facebook.

Henke Wermelin & The Delinquencies

Henke Wermelin & the Delinquencies
Here we have a band from Gothenburg who plan to go big when the spring arrives with releasing a new single, but wanted us here at MeadowMusic to have a look on what they had done so far. Besides having an incredibly hard-to-spell name, they sound a little bit in my ears that they originate from the 70s. At it’s best the music can be desribed as pop with an inch of rock in it. The production sounds pretty lame, with the drums sounding flat. Maybe it’s just me, who also is a musician and always tries to get bombastic sounding drums.

The material sounds happy and easy-going with nice melodies (especially thinking about “When The Weeks Start Talking”) which I think has the highest hit potential. It’s definitely worth a listen if you’re into pop and just wants to have something playing in the background when you’re doing something else at home.

My wishes for their new release is that they will polish their sound a bit.

You’ll find the band on Myspace and on Soundcloud.
