Reform – “Reformed”

March 1, 2011 at 4:14 pm

ReformI’ve been listening to Reform‘s album “Reformed”, an album that was released in 2009. It feels like progressive rock, jazz-fusion and the seventies close to Björn J:son Lindh, Bo Hansson in style, but more based on guitars and with some blues vibes.

“Reformed” is the band’s fifth album since they started, and is maybe more of a music collective than a band, with members coming and going. The only members that have been with the band the entire journey are bass player Jesper Bergman and drummer Anders Bergman. And after having listened to the the other albums I note that the style and sound change a bit between albums.

You can listen to their music on Spotify or on Myspace. Reform also has a Facebook page and on their blog you can listen to some new upcoming tracks. Here’s “Happy Landing” from “Reformed”:

Konträr

KonträrKonträr is a solo project by Linus Sundin Eriksson. I’d say it’s about jazz, where electro jazz meets acoustic, hammond and other intruments. It’s beautifully combined and creates a special atmosphere.

All the names of the songs have two titles like those below: “Satan/Näcken, “Framåt/bakåt” (“Forwards/Backwards”), which is also clearly reflected in the songs.

You can listen to more tracks onKonträr’s Myspace page.

Modual

ModualThat I would enjoy listening to dubstep and drum’n’bass, I wouldn’t have believed a while ago. Not that I dislike these genres in any way, it’s just that my music radar has led me in other directions and that I’ve never really entered this type of music in an interesting way.

But I think that the duo Modual has dragged me into this area somehow now, by blending beautiful pop melodies and a nice jazz-harmonic feeling with the beats. The result is a wonderful, laidback music, soothing and slightly melancholic, with interesting productions.

In September they released the EP “Infinity” and you can listen to this EP, and a former one, on Bandcamp and on Modual’s Soundcloud page. You can also connect with them on Facebook.

Here are two tracks, one from each EP:

Music Is the Weapon

September 3, 2009 at 4:32 pm

Music Is the WeaponIf I were to explain groove to someone, I think that the afro-beat band Music Is the Weapon would be a great example. The 12-membered band creates a music with a liveliness I can listen to for a long time. It’s party, fighting spirit and a lot of joy.  With funk, jazz and caribbean influences this makes a great mix.

They started out as a tribute band to Fela Kuti, but is now playing their own music, inspired by Kuti. This led to the release of their debut album “Music Is the Weapon” in may. I you’d like to listen more you should visit their Myspace page or their Facebook page.

Here you can listen to a bonus track, featuring the poet Lasse Fabel (in swedish):

Lovisa Samuelsson

January 29, 2009 at 4:59 pm

Lovisa SamuelssonWe all need some breathing space somtimes, a moment where we can sit down and just look out the window, maybe daydream a little, maybe just watch what’s happening outside and just be. I find this space when i listen to Lovisa Samuelsson. Maybe it also helps that two of her songs are called “Andrum” (“Breathing Space”) and “Fönsterplats” (“Window Seat”). :-)

Backed by piano or guitar and sometimes a cello she performs soft, beautiful jazz ballads. Listen here below, and if you’d like to listen to more songs you can visit Lovisa Samuelsson on Myspace. There you can also buy her EP.
