John Duva – “John Duva”

John Duva

The last time I wrote about John Duva, a little more than half a year ago, they were just about to release an EP, when they signed with the label Transsubstans. They changed the goal to release a full length album instead, and last month it was finally launched.

If you have liked them before, you will hardly be disappointed now. Here they perfect their route to raw, punk-influenced garage rock with lyrics in both Swedish and English, and you can listen to and download the song “Arbetsnarkomaner” (“Workaholics”) here below.

The album is available on Spotify and on Wimp and other services. Follow the band on their site or on Facebook.

Dalaplan – “Feber”

If someone can take over the heritage of Wilmer X‘ “malmöitic” rock veins today, it’s probably Dalaplan. And then I’m thinking about the Wilmer X that during the eighties toured like crazy and shouted “Kör dig död” to the audience while the sweat poured all over the scene.

There’s not as much blues in Dalaplan’s music, but the more of punk, garage and energy, more than enough for everyone. The five member band Dalaplan was formed from the remnants of Pachanga, which I have written about before. In 2010 they released their debut album and last year the EP “Feber” (“Fever”), and here below you can listen to two of the songs from the EP.

You can meet Dalaplan on their site and on Facebook. Their music is available on Spotify and on Wimp.

John Duva

The band John Duva was just about to release their new EP “Vinter” (“Winter”) when they a couple of weeks ago signed with the label Transsubstans with the aim to release a full length album in the Autumn instead. So right now, we will have to satisfy ourselves with a taste of that.

It’s garage rock and some punk, like a messier The Hives, I hear on these songs. From the EP there still remain two songs on their Soundcloud page you can listen to. There’s also an earlier album from 2009 available on Spotify.

You can find John Duva on Facebook. Here’s “Chains”:

Alouatta – “DIY”

AlouattaThe howler monkeys in Alouatta was a great discovery in the early days of this blog. Now they’ve finally presented a follow-up, the EP “DIY”. And more, they also promise a new full length album in the near future.

And they don’t disappoint me. It’s head-on, energic, messy rock, maybe with some more retro vibes from the early seventies than before, and with Karl Buhre’s special vocals in the front, like he’s a kind of frenetic reincarnation mix of  Hendrix and Lynott.

You can find Aloutatta on Facebook and you can listen to the EP together with the older tracks on Spotify.

Riddarna

RiddarnaThe first time I listened to Riddarna, it felt like I was run over by a steamroller. I wasn’t really prepared for the furious rock energy that poured out of my speakers. But after I got up again and recovered it felt liberating to listen to this garage-stoner-rock in Swedish. Rock that also radiates classic punk rock in the energy, frustration and sweat.

Riddarna has recently released their debut album which is available  on Spotify and you can also listen some more at their site. You can find them on Facebook too. Here are a couple of tracks:
