EP’s Trailerpark opens up the door some more to the upcoming album with another strong track, this time with the single and video “Last Night On Earth”. Erik Palmqvist wants us to think a little about what we’re doing, but leave us, I’d say, with a rather hopeful ambience from the music; “We will sort this out”.
What happens when you downsize the arrangements to just the instruments that are needed to carry a song, to express the ambience and the emotion you want to convey? If you have good songs and a singer with a strong expression you need surprisingly little to create your own unique feeling. Well, in fact it may be the obvious way of finding the personal expression as a band; to peel of off as much as possible of what’s obscuring the way to the listener. When I listen to Bring the Mourning Ons Americana-inspired second album “Ukiah” it’s exactly the feeling I get of how they have worked.
And I think that they have found something personal, something that is uniquely them, which I haven’t heard in the same obvious way inte the earlier songs; in the stripped, naked and subtle. The result is a charged atmosphere where the effect of an added instrument, or when they all press on, gets so much bigger and dramatic, and it becomes so evident that not only every tone is important, but also the weight it has. It’s starting to sound like “Bring the Mourning On” about the band on this album that grows and becomes more nuanced with each listen.
Yesterday I got a mail from Adore Music that they had signed a new interesting band that call themselves Easy October. It’s Kristoffer Hedberg who, with his songwriting in English, inspired the well-known colleagues Kristofer Åström, Nikke Ström (Nationalteatern, Totta) and Johan Håkansson (A Camp, Freddie Wadling) to join him in the new band. A single is going to be released in December and an album later on, but you can pre-listen now already. It’s country rock and och pop with retro feeling from the seventies mixed with vibes from indie pop. Beautiful melodies and a soft atmosphere.
EP’s Trailer Park, with Erik Palmqvist at the forefront, are on their way to release the fourth album later during Winter. They have given a hint of where the album is going to land with the single “Another Sun”, which was released last month. And it’s not just any hint; it’s a wonderful pop song with Americana vibes ther show us. The producer of the new songs is Andreas Mattsson from Popsicle, and I can certainly hear and feel the light pop touch á la Mattsson in this song.
Today Turn Off Your Television released another video and song as a rehearsal before the album release next week. From the first listen I’ve had of the new album, this is one of my absolute favourites, “Planets Will Collide For You”. This song and also “Blanket of Shame” from the same album can be downloaded on their site.
