Johan Agebjörn – “The Boy Who Thought It Was a Good Idea to Cry”

Johan Agebjörn

Johan Agebjörn, hailing from Lund, is best known for his collaboration with Sally Shapiro, as a songwriter and a producer. He has also released music under his own name, often focused on either nu-disco or ambient music. On the upcoming album “Notes” he’s exploring some new routes, though. The starting point for each song has been the electric piano sound from a Casio MT52 keyboard, a simpler keyboard which was manufactured in the early eighties.

A week ago he released the single “The Boy Who Thought It Was a Good Idea to Cry”, which is taken from the album. It’s a beautifully melancholic song which makes me think of old TV series from the seventies or the eighties, like a theme to some thriller series or some detective story. There are also a couple of other sample songs from the record, released in the Autumn, “The Right to Play” and “The Leftovers”, where the last song includes vocals from Loney Dear. On “Notes”, scheduled for release on the 10th of February, you’ll also hear collaborations with Sally Shapiro, Young Galaxy and Brain Machine.

Lindblom & Lindblom

A couple of weeks ago we got a taste of the duo Lindblom & Lindblom’s new album, which will be released officially in a week on December 8th. We can listen to the 8 tracks from the album “Sturm und Drang” already today, though, and on their Bandcamp page there’s also a limited cassette version available, with a live recording on the b-side. Help yourself to some great instrumental noise rock:

Conny Olivetti – “eleVen”

Conny Olivetti

It’s always fascinating to dive into Conny Olivetti’s electronic world. A month ago he released the double album “eleVen”, which is his eleventh one as the name implies. As with several others of his albums there’s a filmic vibe to this eventful electronica, a rather dark one with a noir feeling, which is further emphasized by the many sampled movie quotes in the songs. Three of the songs contain vocals by the singer Linnea, among them the starting track “Tara King”, a track which was present already on the last album but then in a bit shorter, instrumental version. Here are three of the songs:

Lindblom & Lindblom

The band Lindblom & Lindblom describe their music as instrumental noise rock. The two brothers Robert and Rickard, who earlier played in the bands Hundhuvudet and Traktor respectively, are now working on the debut album “Sturm & Drang” and also a 90 minutes long 2-track cassette single. As a taste of what’s coming up, they have released the two title tracks from the album:

Sanjin – “Fjärde soluppgången”

October 20, 2014 at 4:57 pm

I continue today on the instrumental theme. Here’s Sanjin with the album “Fjärde soluppgången” (“Fourth sunrise”). I hear a delightful seventies-sound with krautrock vibes and retro-synths. The electronica is dominating in experimental ambient creations, but other elements are offered as well, like in the finishing “Utan dag utan timme”, with it’s rock-progressive touch. A fascinating listen all the way through.
Sanjin runs the site “Allt för musik“, a quite readable blog about art, nisched music and sound phenomena.
