Perry and the Travellers

March 31, 2011 at 1:23 pm

Perry and the TravellersWell, this is actually my 400th post here on Meadowmusic. That’s quite a few posts isn’t it? and it feels a little like a milestone somehow. If I add the other authors’ posts I estimate that we’ve presented somewhere between 350 and 380 artists and bands, and a majority of these have never been seen in a blog post before.

The band that is given the honour today is Perry and the Travellers. Their guiding star is Lynyrd Skynyrd and the conclusion of course is that it’s about southern rock. And that they deliver for sure, and great southern rock too. At least from what I can judge from the single with two songs they released recently.

The single is a first taste of their new album “The Grand Voyage”, which will be released on the 8th of April, their third album. You can find the band on their site and on Facebook.

Brian Kramer – “Myself and Mine”

July 13, 2010 at 11:24 pm

A year and a half ago I wrote a post on Brian Kramer and his live album from Club Stampen. This time, though, he’s all alone. It’s just about Brian, his acoustic guitar(s) and you. As close and intimate as it gets.

He sneaks away into the Mississippi delta, he takes a tour to Amsterdam, he let the blues take a stroll along childhood lanes and relationships and even have a look at an old pocket watch. It’s naked and straight on and no excessive outbreaks. And just like with the other album, I feel a nice mellow warmth, and especially in the more melodic storytelling songs, I get a feeling of John Hiatt, who also have a special way of spreading warmth around him.

Here are two tracks from “Myself and Mine”:

Slowman – “I’m Back”

May 21, 2010 at 12:01 pm

SlowmanThe title of Slowman‘s new album “I’m Back” is of course a hint of that he’s back with a new record, but first of all he’s announcing that he’s back to his musical roots. And that’s how the new album feels, an exploration of classic blues, blues rock, some contry rock plus soul and funk. The blues is what feels the most, the dist knob are cranked up a bit more, the edges not too polished and his got his hands deep down in classic, fertile timeless soil. I’d say that he’s standing even more secure with this new album.

Born 53

Born 53Recently Born 53 released their album “Foreign Accent”, an album where they serve 15 songs in a soft mix of americana and blues. For me it’s foremost a journey through Dylan-land, and that they present an excellent cover of  “Million Dollar Bash” feels quite natural. Strong songwriting and an intimate, open, basic sound with great guitars makes this a very nice experience. Here are the two opening tracks on “Foreign Accent”:

Roí Höttur

February 11, 2010 at 3:33 pm

Roí HötturRoí Höttur means Robin Hood in Icelandic, but beside the name I can’t find any obvious connections to Iceland or icelandic music. Instead the band serve us, what I would like to call, psychadelia with a blues heart. And psychadelia then as a trip back to the times of the early Pink Floyd.

The Doors can also be sensed in their music as well as, to some extent, Led Zeppelin and all this can be heard in their debut. A debut, which is, in a nice psychadelia tradition, a 12 minute long piece. Great fun to listen to.

You can find Roí Höttur on Myspace, on Facebook and on their blog. Here’s “Dream of Papaver”:
